There is an old Maldivian story about how tuna first came to the islands.
It speaks of a great mālimi: a navigator; who sailed so far that the sea thinned and the world began to fall away. At the edge of it stood an enderi tree, black coral rising like a living monument through strong currents. At its base, strange striped fish leapt and shimmered. The mālimi understood them as a gift. A chant was whispered, a ritual performed, and the fish followed the boat home, choosing the deep waters of the Maldives as their own.

The Black Coral Pendant draws from this imagery: a coral that stands like a majestic black tree at the end of the ocean, where water rushes past and depth turns infinite.

There is an ancient Maldivian tale of how the first tunas came to the Islands. It is said that a great mālimi (navigator) sailed to the edge of the world where a colossal enderi (Black Coral) tree rises above the strong currents. There they encountered a school of peculiar striped fish jumping at the base of the black coral. Believing the tunas to be a divine gift, the mālimi whispered a magical chant and performed a ritual, and the tunas followed them home, and settled into the deep waters of the Maldives.

This is a glue-set jewelry piece. When gemstones are set without prongs, they need help staying in place. This is usually done with glue, epoxy or resin. While every effort is made to ensure the stone is afixed strongly, glue-set pieces require a bit more TLC to ensure the stone does not come loose. Frequent contact with liquids can cause the glue to break-down. If the bracelet falls or has an impact with another object, the stone may come loose.
